Steptoe and Son (BBC, from June). Comedy by Alan Simpson and Ray Galton. First series of five episodes, based on a one-off episode of Comedy Playhouse transmitted in January 1962. Runs until 1965, revived 1970-1974.
That Was the Week That Was (BBC, from November 24). Late evening satirical programme.

New shows
Beverly Hillbillies (CBS). Comedy.

Film
• In a British Film Institute decennial poll, film critics vote Orson Welles' Citizen Kane the best film of all time. Michelangelo Antonioni's L'Avventura and Jean Renoir's La Règle du Jeu are in second and third places, followed by Erich von Stroheim's Greed and Kenji Mizoguchi's Ugestsu Monogatari in joint fourth place.
