| Our New Errand Boy James Williamson | 1905 | 5 min 46 secs Although essentially a series of sketches, this film demonstrates the extent to which James Williamson had developed film technique. For a start, the film has a title frame, which includes the logo of the Williamson Cinematograph Company. The chase section anticipates the American comedies of the next decade. Williamson himself plays the grocer and his son Tom is the errand boy. The film was shot entirely on location and several of the places can be readily identified. For instance, the shot of the two boys walking towards the camera (1:16) was shot on the eastern side of the railway bridge in Wilbury Villas. Williamson's studio in Cambridge Grove is a few yards away to the west. Shortly after (2:06) can be seen the street name |
