The public demonstration of Ampex two-inch quadruplex videotape recording and playback at the Conrad Hilton Hotel, Chicago during the National Association of Radio and Television Broadcasters convention. Within a year, all three US networks and many foreign broadcasters ordered the new machines.
The team that built the Ampex VTR with the Emmy Award presented to the company for its technical achievement: (from the left) Charles E Anderson, Ray Dolby, Alex Maxey, Shelby Henderson, Charles Ginsburg and Fred Pfost.
