  UK cinema audiences: young people

1948: Adolescent attendance
A paper at the British Association meeting reported:
• 60 per cent of 13-16 year olds attended at least once a week
• 50 per cent of secondary modern school pupils visit twice or more weekly, twice as often as grammar school pupils. 'The differences probably reflected not only variation in intellectual level, but also social factors, such as the degree of parental interest in leisure activities, lack of home comfort in large families, restricted interest of adolescents in other forms of social activities or even lack of leadership.' (Or just possibly nightly homework?)
