February  High-definition set-top boxes for the UK's Freeview service go on sale in the London area.  
March 30  Full launch of Freeview HD across the UK regions, including the new Channel 4 HD.  
March 31  Arqiva completes the conversion of all terrestrial television transmitters in Wales to digital coverage, involving eigh main transmitters and 195 relays. Last to be converted is the Wenvoe transmitter group of the main station and 76 relays in the valleys of South Wales.  
June 1  All analogue television signals in Latvia are turned off.  
July 22 Australian Broadcasting Corporation launches ABC News 24, a round-the-clock high-definition channel, replacing ABC HD.  
July 1 All analogue television signals in Estonia are turned off.  
September 28 UK's first 3D pay-per-view (PPV) channel, 3D Movies On Demand, is launched by Virgin Media.  
October 1 BSkyB launches the first stereoscopic television channel in the UK, Sky 3D.  
November 8 Doughty Hanson private equity firm agrees to buy UK's third largest cinema chain, Vue Entertainment, from Cavendish Square Partners—now Coller Capital (70 per cent) and Lloyds Banking Group (30 per cent)—for 450m. Management receives 70m, some of which is reinvested for a minority stake.  
December 20 UK media regulator Ofcom issues a statement permitting product placement in television programmes. Link to the rules
