Start of television services

The chart shows the number of new national television services each year. It clearly shows the build-up to a peak in 1964, by which time virtually all major territories had a service. Thereafter it was mainly the smaller and developing nations that were catching up.
 

The second chart shows the number of new national television services each year (the small gold bars) combined with the cumulative total of countries with television services (dark red). Even dissemination of technology on this level appears to obey the classic S-curve distribution that applies to consumer electronics.
