• Big Brother (Endemol for Veronica). Singularly unpleasant but massively popular 'reality television' show that goes on to be franchised to many countries around the world.

Music
• In a poll for BBC Radio 2 for the best song of the 20th century, based on sales figures, listeners' votes and 'expert opinion', the top titles were:
1 Yesterday by (John Lennon and) Paul McCartney (1965), of which over 3,000 recordings have been made, making it probably the most covered song of all time
2 Stardust by Hoagy Carmichael (1927), lyrics by Mitchell Parish (1929), recorded over 1,800 times (see also 2000)
3 Bridge Over Troubled Water by Paul Simon (1969)
